Great looking hat, I love it. What's more, my wife likes it (unusual for her to like something I like). It's a little different so you don't see a hat like this everday. I don't wear it with the brim turned up Aussie style, I wear it brim full down all around to protect against sun and rain, which it does a great job doing. Service from David Morgan was fantastic, I placed my order via phone on Thursday afternoon and I received my hat on Saturday, all the way from Washington state to Georgia in 2 1/2 days.

You can't argue with over 125 years of service. I received My first Akubra slouch hat in 1968 as a gift from a high school friend who bought it for me while on R & R in Australia. I am a rabid outdoorsman and I wore this hat constantly, rain or shine, until I finally wore out after about six years. I immediately purchased a new one and got several more years of excellent service out of it. I will have to admit I was never particularly kind to my hats, having used them to water horses on several occasions. I purchased my last slouch in 2000. I have slowed down quite a bit over the years and as a result this hat has lasted much longer than my first two. I am about to purchase a replacement for my girlfriend's original slouch that was stolen recently. (Hers was decorated with emu feathers in the tradition of the Australian Lighthorse Regiments, and she looked extremely hot wearing it!) I would like to see David Morgan carry authentic military issue puggarees and perhaps additional ANZAC insignia. The Akubra Slouch is the best all-around hat your money can buy.

Comments:

Bought mine in 1969 from Eddie Bauer (sorry, didn't know about David Morgan back then) to add a little panache to my outdoor wear. It was a size 7-1/8, since reblocked (by Shudde Bros. in Houston) to a 7-1/4, and about to be reblocked again to a 7-5/8. ('Cause my head keeps growing, whaddaya know?) No, I haven't worn it every day, but I've worn it every cool season plus outdoors whenever, and it still looks great. A little salty, but I wouldn't want to start breaking in a new one. Gents, if you were military, you might want to stick a service or specialty badge on the clipped-up side. As a guy on another website says, "They'll fight over it after you're gone."

It is a terrific hat. Great to wear in the field. My head is an odd size and it took a little to adjust and I replaced the pugaree with a military one which made it fit my head better. I don't usually go anywhere without it. Top notch product. No complaints.

After having this hat since February of 1977, purchased from David Morgan,I'm retiring it and will purchase another. I've worn it throughout the years, but it has become a cool weather only hat for me now that I'm older and fatter. It has weathered 120 + degrees in the US West and -30 degrees in the US Mid-west. Rain, snow, hail, dust storms, drought, wind (thank goodness for the chin strap), desert sun, smoke... you name it, this hat takes it and protects the wearer. The quality of this hat is impeccable, and is a fantastic testimony to Akubra's quality and standards. 36 years... I hope I live long enough to wear the next one that long.

Comments:

The Aussie Slouch Hat was my first Akubra, and since getting it I've added a Cattleman to the collection and will hopefully be adding a Lightning Ridge or Territory in the future. I plan on using the Cattleman for dressier ocassions, and the Slouch for adventuring. After having worn "boonie" hats and baseball caps for many years on my outdoor adventures, I finally decided to try going old school, with felt. Wow, I'm glad I did. The slouch hat breaths very well in the heat, keeps me warm in the cool evening and morning air, and dry in the downpours. This hat easily outperforms other hat types in varying weather conditions. I wore it on a backpacking summer trip in the High Sierras, where it withstood heat and sun, thunderstorm downpours, etc., and snow in the winter. An Akubra is now among the first things I grab when going backpacking.
