Got this hat from David Morgan over 40 yrs ago. Though I have lots of hats, this my #1 outdoorsman hat for the western hills, mountains and deserts. I added a braided kangaroo "stampede string" to hold it on in high winds and on fast horses. My favorite!

Great use for Golfing and Outings. And proud to know that it was once exactly the same kind use by the Australian Army. Would also be excellent if the very same having differing choice of colours.

I love this hat. I also have a Lawson which I love almost more than words but I wanted a hat that was meant for more rugged abuse so that I could use my Lawson for slightly more formal wear. This hat is a little bigger than the Lawson given that they are the same size but with some felt in the sweat band and some good breaking in, I have no doubt it will conform perfectly to my head.

Comments:

I purchased this hat to wear on Safari in Tanzania. I was there for the entire month of September and loved the hat. It was the perfect selection to wear. It was practical in keeping the sun out of my face, not to mention the flies. With the strap the hat stayed on in high winds and when traveling in an open safari truck.

Comments:

Great looking hat, I love it. What's more, my wife likes it (unusual for her to like something I like). It's a little different so you don't see a hat like this everday. I don't wear it with the brim turned up Aussie style, I wear it brim full down all around to protect against sun and rain, which it does a great job doing. Service from David Morgan was fantastic, I placed my order via phone on Thursday afternoon and I received my hat on Saturday, all the way from Washington state to Georgia in 2 1/2 days.

Comments:

You can't argue with over 125 years of service. I received My first Akubra slouch hat in 1968 as a gift from a high school friend who bought it for me while on R & R in Australia. I am a rabid outdoorsman and I wore this hat constantly, rain or shine, until I finally wore out after about six years. I immediately purchased a new one and got several more years of excellent service out of it. I will have to admit I was never particularly kind to my hats, having used them to water horses on several occasions. I purchased my last slouch in 2000. I have slowed down quite a bit over the years and as a result this hat has lasted much longer than my first two. I am about to purchase a replacement for my girlfriend's original slouch that was stolen recently. (Hers was decorated with emu feathers in the tradition of the Australian Lighthorse Regiments, and she looked extremely hot wearing it!) I would like to see David Morgan carry authentic military issue puggarees and perhaps additional ANZAC insignia. The Akubra Slouch is the best all-around hat your money can buy.

Comments:

Bought mine in 1969 from Eddie Bauer (sorry, didn't know about David Morgan back then) to add a little panache to my outdoor wear. It was a size 7-1/8, since reblocked (by Shudde Bros. in Houston) to a 7-1/4, and about to be reblocked again to a 7-5/8. ('Cause my head keeps growing, whaddaya know?) No, I haven't worn it every day, but I've worn it every cool season plus outdoors whenever, and it still looks great. A little salty, but I wouldn't want to start breaking in a new one. Gents, if you were military, you might want to stick a service or specialty badge on the clipped-up side. As a guy on another website says, "They'll fight over it after you're gone."
